PHEB: Dravidians have no right to tell Hindus how to practice Hinduism
Penang Hindu Endowments Board chairman RSN Rayer has a hard hitting message for Dravidian NGOs who are interfering into the practice of Hindus.
“Dravidians have no right to tell Hindus how to practice Hinduism.
“Saraswathi pooja will continue in all Tamil schools,” Rayer told Harapan Daily.
He said this in response to a recent call by Malaysia Thiravidar Humanitarian Organisation chairman Naga Panchu who called for the banning of Saraswathi pooja in Tamil schools during school hours.
The prayers are normally performed during the auspicious period of Navarathri.
Selangor exco for human resources and poverty eradication V Pappa Raidu called for the ban of the NGO instead.
Rayer added the call from the group was extreme.
“They are free to practice but it is too much telling Hindus on how to practice Hinduism. Their call is ridiculous, unnecessary and too much,” said Rayer who is also Jelutong MP.
He pointed out that the Dravidian groups in Malaysia should practice mutual respect.
“They must have mutual respect. Their practices only serves to further divide the Indian community.”
He also assured individuals practising Dravidian ideology that the latter’s children would not be included in the Saraswathi pooja, similar to Tamil school children who are of non-Hindu faiths.
