Penang MIC chief grounded on chances to contest in elections

While there are calls for seats to be allocated to BN in Kuala Lumpur, Penang MIC chief Datuk J Dhinagaran is grounded on his chances to contest in the 16th general election.

“I will leave it to my president (Tan Sri S Vigneswaran). It is too early to discuss about the seats.

“One can say one thing today and do another thing altogether. I can say I want 10, but would it materialise?” he said when Harapan Daily met him in Penang recently.

Prior to the general election in 2008, MIC had always representatives in Bagan Dalam and Prai – both the seats are now held by the DAP.

Dhinagaran himself had previously lost in Bagan Dalam during the general election in 2018.

At present he is content with his position as the state MIC chief as he is still able to serve the people despite not holding public office.

“We need to serve people. I am spending my own money, not depending on other sources to serve people. I am a businessman,” said Dhinagaran who owns Jaya AGD Sdn Bhd with restaurants all over Malaysia.

“I am quite happy it benefits people.

“We do not depend on position and we have to prove ourselves to the people.”
