It is a question of dignity – Wee dismisses the notion of cooperation with DAP

MCA president Datuk Wee Ka Siong has dismissed the possibility of his party cooperating in the Kuala Kubu Bahru by-election because DAP secretary general Anthony Loke openly expressed his dislike for MCA on Keluar Sekejap podcast.

This is despite MCA which is part of BN and DAP which is part of Pakatan Harapan are partners in the unity government under the leadership of Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim.

“After a having a good time thrashing and criticising MCA, now you want MCA’s help to campaign for the DAP? Do you think that MCA has not a shred of dignity or feelings?

“When my party members get hurt by the words of DAP leaders, am I, as a MCA leader, expected to stay silent?

“This is a question of my party’s dignity – the dignity of MCA that was formed in 1949 and fought for independence alongside Umno and MIC.

Wee said this via a Facebook video clip in response to the call by DAP vice president Nga Kor Ming who had urged BN component parties to have a big heart and return the assistance given by DAP in seats that was contested BN under the present unity government.

We are not a hypocrite

“When you speak, you even curse MCA with so much hatred, now you want MCA to have a big heart?

“MCA isn’t a hypocrite. We are a straight forward party. Imagine what DAP would do if they were on the receiving end. What would you feel? Be honest.

Wee also had a message for Umno, though he refrained from stating it outright.

“To my fellow BN comrades, we have always been close. I appreciate this camaraderie. Don’t forget, all this while, that party has been contesting seats contested by MCA under the BN banner.

“Do you still remember, they claimed that MCA was in cahoots with thiefs and even accused us as traitors of the Chinese community for failing to recognise UEC and failing to do away the quota for Bumiputera?”

Wee claimed that the DAP had condemned him and his party in the past and continues to do so in the present.

“You cannot expect me to still be patient. After all that you can’t expect me to tell my party members to kiss their leaders.

Nomination for the Kuala Kubu Bahru by-election is on 27 April whereas the polls is scheduled on May 11.
