A wake up call for Perikatan Nasional

Bangi MP Syahredzan Johan of the DAP deciphered Pang Sock Tao’s success in retaining the Kuala Kubu Baharu seat yesterday as a wake up call for the opposition alliance, Perikatan Nasional.

“This defeat should be a wake up call for PN to do away with toxic and divisive politics that they have used frequently. Clearly such politics only brings in diminishing returns and cannot be used to gain a state like Selangor or Malaysia,” he said in a statement.

Pang retained the seat with a majority of 3,869 votes and obtained 14,000 votes in a four cornered fight.

Khairul Azhari Saut of Bersatu under the PN banner obtained 10,131 votes.

Syahredzan added that PN’s campaign did not offer anything interesting for the voters of Kuala Kubu Baharu. They instead harped on 3R issues.

“From the beginning, they eyed victory by playing up race and religion issues.

“Vernacular school, the candidate’s religion and race as well as the sentiments of Malays would lose power were issues played up by PN.

“PN’s loss in Kuala Kubu Baharu proves 3R issues failed to resonate with the voters in that constituency.”
