Mediation fails, hearing fixed for Sept

A mediation attempt in the defamation case filed by top DAP leaders against Kepala Batas MP Siti Mastura Muhammad failed today.

Datuk N Sankara Nair who represents DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng, party veteran Lim Kit Siang and vice president Teresa Kok confirmed that the defamation suits would go on trial as scheduled.

“Mediation began at 11 this morning but neither parties reached an agreement, so the mediation failed. We would proceed to court for a trial.

“The trial would begin on 2 Sept and heard by together by the judge,” he said.

Guan Eng, Kit Siang and Kok filed a defamation suit against Siti Mastura in Nov last year.

Siti Mastura alleged that all the three DAP personalities were connected by blood to Malayan Communist Party leader, the late Chin Peng, whose real name is Ong Boon Hua and Singapore’s founding father Lee Kuan Yew.

She also claimed that Kok is a cousin of Guan Eng’s wife, Betty Chew.

She made the allegation during the Kemaman by-election campaign.
