Alliance with Pas detrimental to Bersatu

Selat Kelang state assemblyman Datuk Abdul Rashid Asari of Bersatu, who backs Selangor Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Amiruddin Shari, claimed that a continued alliance with Pas is detrimental to Bersatu as the latter would continue to dwindle because Pas is “too extreme”.

Using the Kuala Kubu Baharu by election campaign as an example, he said Pas campaigned with a narrative that it is forbidden for a person not to vote.

“Many don’t like (that sort of posturing). It’s very extreme. Malays don’t like it and even some Pas members hate it,” he said, FMT reported.

While not all the members are extreme, a handful of leaders who bring along these views also eroded the work done by Pas machinery in wooing voters.

On a personal level, he declared that he did not trust Pas.

Despite being well known for preaching on religion, he said the party failed to honor even a simple agreement.

He pointed out that during the seat allocation discussion for the 15th general election, it was agreed upon for Bersatu to contest Kapar. However Pas staked a claim and nominated Dr Halimah Ali.

“They say it’s a sin if you don’t keep to your promise, but I guess Pas leaders feel otherwise,” Rashid said.
