Pas scored own goals for PN candidate Khairul Azhari Saut

Perikatan Nasional component – Pas scored own goals in a bid to assist Khairul Azhari Saut in the Kuala Kubu Baharu over the weekend, said analysts.

“PAS scored an own goal for PN by attacking the DAP candidate’s Chinese education background. This is as (detrimental) as a non-Malay seeking Malay support but attacking Islam,” said political scientist Wong Chin Huat of Sunway University.

Oh Ei Sun of the Singapore Institute of International Affairs said that Pas’ theocratisation agenda spooked the Chinese voters.

“PAS’s persistent focus on hudud law, as well as fines imposed for certain modes of dressing in Kelantan, have contributed to the community’s fear of PN,” he said, reported FMT.

Wong also dismissed MCA’s claim that DAP retained Chinese support through rumour mongering.

DAP’s Pang Sock Tao won the four cornered tussle with a majority of 3,869 votes when she pollede 14,000 votes against Khairul who bagged 10,131 votes. The other two candidates lost their deposits.
