Malaysians warned against extremism in Palestine advocacy
Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Religious Affairs) Na’im Mokthar urged all parties not to go extreme on Palestine issues.
This is in regards with the Blockout 2024 movement, which calls for a boycott of prominent figures who did not raise awareness about the ongoing conflict.
“All parties are urged to always maintain harmony when living as a society.
“Any actions with the potential to trigger public unrest must be avoided at all costs,” Na’im said, reported Malaysiakini.
This movement involved social media users are partaking in a trend wherein they block the accounts of select celebrities, spanning platforms such as X, TikTok, and Instagram.
These celebrities are accused of ignoring the humanitarian crisis or promoting brands tied to Israel and now face backlash.
The campaign targets figures like Taylor Swift and has also led Malaysians to criticize local stars, including celebrities Michelle Yeoh, Anna Jobling, and Neelofa.
