Government mulls over special committee to curb spread of fake news
The government is mulling over the establishment of a special committee to prevent the spread of fake news during the upcoming Sungai Bakap by-election, said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil.
He stressed that it is vital for misinformation against the federal government, that intends to help people, be stopped.
“God willing, we will do it for the upcoming by-election,” he said after the Sembang Santai Programme with Komuniti Madani chiefs in Nibong Tebal, The Star reported.
He said a team from the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Information Department will monitor what is going on during the polls.
He also said that the visits of federal ministers to the ground is not an issue since Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim had given the green light so that problems of the people can be resolved.
The Sungai Bakap by-election will be called following the death of its assemblyman, Nor Zamri Latiff from Pas last month.
