Police implementing Prohibited Area and Prohibited Places regulations on police stations
The Home Ministry has taken a proactive step by forming a task force to identify and implement the declaration of Prohibited Area and Prohibited Places at the PDRM facilities and premises especially police stations nationwide, revealed minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
“The declaration was done in accordance to legal provisions under the Prohibited Area and Places Act. The formation of the task force was decided in the centralised vital targets committee meeting and it is led by the chief government security officer.”
Saifuddin said this in his written reply to RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) who queried on enhanced security measures for all police stations nationwide following the attack on a police station in Ulu Tiram in Johor and at the Dato Keramat Police Station in Jelutong, Penang.
“A management circular dated May 20, 2024 has been issued to raise security checks at all police premises to identify physical weaknesses so that immediate action can be taken and security rounds can be enhanced.
“The police also has reinforced internal standard operating procedure to enhance the security in police premises that includes Inspector General of Police’s Permanent Order,” he said.
The Ulu Tiram incident involved a man attacking the policemen in the police station whereas the Dato Keramat incident involved a motorcyclist attempting to trespass into the police station.
