I won’t contest as an independent

Azizi Abu Naim, the now former Nenggiri assemblyman, confirmed that he would not contest as an independent in the by-election scheduled next week.

“This is not about the contested seat, but about respecting the spirit of camaraderie among the component parties,” he told reporters in Gua Musang yesterday.

Azizi added that he had sent a letter to Bersatu on Saturday, urging the party to provide clear details regarding his membership termination.

On June 19, Kelantan State Assembly speaker Mohd Amar Nik Abdullah announced that the Nenggiri seat fell vacant after a written notice was received under Clause (3) of Article 31A of the Kelantan state constitution concerning Azizi’s membership status.

The notice as sent by Bersatu after Azizi became friendly towards the PH-BN administration at the federal level since he is also the incumbent Gua Musang MP.

Nomination for the Nenggiri state seat would be held on August 3 and the polls is set on August 17.
