Lim slaps RM5 million in damages for defamation over allegations by PN’s Dr Afif
DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng is claiming RM5 million in damages from Dr Afif Bahardin (PN-Taman Medan) in Selangor over defamatory statements that the latter made via a TikTok video on May 2nd.
Afif had claimed that during his term as Penang exco of PKR, Lim who was Finance Minister had not provided funds amounting to RM20 million to Penang Bumiputera Council.
He claimed that he was forced to request the funds from then Economy Minister Datuk Seri Azmin Ali.
At that time, the government was led by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad.
Afif is now in Bersatu with Azmin.
The claim was in a speech made during the Kuala Kubu Baharu by-election campaign.
Lim through his lawyer Datuk N Sankara Nair said Afif implied that Lim is a racist who aimed to disrupt racial harmony and tensions, uncaring of the bumiputera in Penang, unsympathetic to the bumiputera and unfit to be people’s representative.
Aside from the RM5 million, Lim wants an immediate and unequivocal retraction, unconditional apology, and a written undertaking not to repeat the defamatory statements.
Failure on the part of Afif to act on this letter of demand within the next three days would lead to Sankara to initiate legal proceedings against Afif.
