RM17.9 million to 835 Indian entrepreneurs via TEKUN, RM10.85 million to 1,347 PENN recipients
Since its launch in the year 2008 until May 31 2024, the Indian Community Entrepreneur Development Scheme (SPUMI) under TEKUN Nasional has aided 29,136 Indian entrepreneurs with funds amounting to RM457.7 million, revealed Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Minister Ewon Benedick.
“From that amount for the period beginning from January to May 31st this year, TEKUN Nasional channelled funds amounting to RM17.9 million to 835 Indian entrepreneurs.
“Funds amounting to RM30 million have been allocated to TEKUN Nasional for the implementation of SPUMI.
“The ministry through TEKUN Nasional also provide RM30 million funding via SPUMI GOES BIG and these internal agency funds in April this year.”
Ewon said this in his reply to S Kesavan (PH-Sungai Siput) who queried on the total amount of funds allocated for the socioeconomic development of Indian community under SPUMI and the Indian Women Empowerment Special Fund (PENN) by Amanah Ikhtiar Malaysia (AIM).
Kesavan also asked for the details on the number of participants who received the loans.
“For the PENN program, since January until May 31 this year, RM10.85 million was allocated to 1,347 to Indian entrepreneurs.
“PENN also allocated RM50 million via AIM’s special fund. A total of 7100 Indian entrepreneurs have been identified to receive funds of upto RM30,000,” he said.
