Agong’s call lifted constraints faced by social media users

Zainurizzaman Moharam, better known as Zack Rockstar who is active on social media, discussing Malaysian political issues, welcomed the call by the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim as a point that lifted constraints faced by social media users.

“Before His Majesty spoke, there was a constraint for social media users because there was no support from the society and victims.

“His Majesty’s call is good and timely as we have already lost many people to cyber bully,” said Zack who is active on various social media platforms.

“The government needs to have a wholesome programme responsibly and provide a support channel for victims. It is also good that Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil welcomed the feedback from Agong, he told Harapan Daily.

Zack also said cyber bullying is a form of harassment that leads to one going through a traumatic phase. As for the bullies he noted that they trespass personal data that leads them to threaten the victims.

Sultan Ibrahim called upon all stakeholders to take stringent action against issues cropping up from the abuse of social media.

“His Majesty knows about the problems on social media. His Majesty knows about the cyberbully and he said that Communications Minister and MCMC must take very stringent action. His majesty is very concerned,” said Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil yesterday.

The king reiterated that social media cannot be turned into a battleground to fight or defame one another as that would became a cause for divisiveness.

Fahmi also updated Sultan Ibrahim on the cyberbully case that led to the death of TikTok influencer A Rajeswary.

There has been a multitude of issues arising from social media abuse that ranges from cyberbully to online scammers and even online gambling.

TikTok affiliate marketeer Usha Veerasenan who also raises social issues regarding the Indian community too welcomed the king’s decree.

“It is a timely advice. Many people’s live have been destroyed due to social media abuse.

“Many use social media for livelihood through social media.”

On that note she also suggested that TikTok implements a system where one registers to use social media using official documentation and are restricted to one account.
