Motion on Teoh Beng Hock case received in less than 24 hours
Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul said more time is needed to reach a decision on the motion which sought to hasten the investigation into the death of Teoh Beng Hock.
“Yes I received the motion under standing order 18 (2), but it is less than 24 hours since you gave me the motion. I will decide on it soon,” Johari said.
He was responding to Chow Yu Hui (PH -Raub) who queried about the status of the motion he submitted yesterday.
“What is the status of the motion I submitted?” he asked Johari in Dewan Rakyat today.
Yesterday, Chow submitted an urgent motion, pressing the government to accelerate investigations into the Teoh case and apprehend those accountable for his death.
“The purpose of presenting the urgent motion today (July 16) is to urge the government and the police to heed the demands of the Teoh Beng Hock Association for Democratic Advancement (TBH-ADA) and the public, and also to reopen the investigation under Section 302 of the Penal Code (murder), uncover the truth, arrest the real culprits, and bring them to court,” he is reported to have said.
Fifteen years ago, Teoh tragically died at the old headquarters of the Selangor Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) in Plaza Masalam, Shah Alam under suspicious circumstances.
Teoh was investigated by MCMC for alleged corruption.
TBH-ADA had called an investigation into Teoh’s death to uncover the truth.
