Why didn’t Pas raise the issue when PN was in power, questions Lim
Democratic Action Party (DAP) national chairman Lim Guan Eng questioned why Pas did not raise concerns about beer company sponsorships for Chinese schools when Perikatan Nasional (PN) was in power.
“They are playing both sides.
“PN and PAS are playing a double game, they stay quiet while in power and then dramatically change their stance when in opposition.
“This will damage national unity,” Lim, also the Bagan MP, said today, reported Kwong Wah Daily.
He noted that beer companies have been raising funds for Chinese schools for decades without any problems.
It is unfortunate, he added, that Pas from PN has now stirred controversy over this issue, just so Gerakan could safeguard Chinese education and address the situation, behaving as if they are playing both sides to gain political leverage.
Lim, who is also the Air Putih assemblyman added that because government funding for Chinese schools is insufficient, the Chinese community has to raise funds on their own.
A recent controversy arose when a photo went viral, revealing Aiman at a school charity event sponsored by Tiger Beer.
The event, which took place on July 19 at SJK(C) Tche Min in Sungai Pelek, Sepang, has sparked significant backlash.
In response, Sukri Omar, the Selangor Pas Youth chief, criticized the event, asserting that Tiger Beer’s sponsorship compromised its integrity and suggested that such involvement could lead to the normalization of alcohol in educational settings.
This a sentiment that Pas Selangor Deputy Commissioner 2, Haji Sabirin Marsono shared based on the statement he issued today.
In a related development, Ipoh Timor MP Howard Lee Chuan How revealed that the directive against brewery companies was introduced by former deputy education minister Chong Sin Woon.
