Biden quit because defending democracy is a greater cause
In his first address since dropping out of the US presidential race, President Joe Biden explained that the reason for him to quit the race was because defending democracy is more important than any title.
He also described his now former political rival, Donald Trump as an existential threat to the nation’s democracy.
“The defence of democracy is more important than any title. I draw strength, and find joy, in working for the American people. But this sacred task of perfecting our Union is not about me. It’s about you. Your families. Your futures. It’s about ‘We the People’.
“I have decided the best way forward is to pass the torch to a new generation. That is the best way to unite our nation.”
He pledged to remain president until his term expires on January 20, 2025.
