Just accept the party sec-gen post, you are not an MP, Azmin

A number of Bersatu’s Supreme Leadership Council (MPT) members have been lobbying so that Selangor Bersatu chief Datuk Seri Azmin Ali accepts the position of party secretary general instead of vying for the number two position within the party.

This is because they are of the view that the president and deputy must be a MP.

Prior to this there were rumours that Azmin who is also Selangor Opposition Leader rejecting the secretary general post.

A MPT member who declined to be named said the strength of a party depends on the number of MPs the party has.

“Take Pejuang as an example, people forget them because they don’t have a MP, the same goes for Putra.

“If Azmin maintains his stand to contest for the deputy president position, he should know that the president is a MP. Why isn’t the deputy a MP too.

“(Current deputy president Datuk Seri Ahmad Faizal Azumu) Peja willing backed down and made way for Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin because he is no longer a MP,” said the source, Scoop reported.

Muhyiddin had announced a leadership transition plan about a fortnight ago in which Peja would make way for Hamzah who is also parliamentary opposition leader to take over the number two seat.

Peja would vie for the supreme council position and Azmin was offered the party secretary general post.
