PN distances itself from Muhyiddin Yassin

Federal opposition alliance Perikatan Nasional has distanced itself from the action of its chairman Tan Sri Muhyiddin who questioned the ability of the 16th Agong and Pahang Ruler, Al-Sultan Abdullah.

“PN will not defend any party leaders who is facing legal action for questioning and insulting the Agong if he is found guilty.

“This party also strongly opposes the act of questioning the Agong’s powers and insulting His Majesty. If any leader did so, the action is a personal action,” said PN secretary general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainuddin who is also the parliamentary opposition leader.

He said this in view of the calls by Pahang Regent Tengku Hassanal Ibrahim Alam Shah who wants police action against Muhyiddin Yassin.

Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Salleh had called upon PN component parties to state its stand on the issue.

On Aug 15 during the Nenggiri by-election campaign in Felda Perasu, Muhyiddin had questioned the ability of Al-Sultan Abdullah in not appointing him as the prime minister after the general election in 2022.

Hamzah claimed that PN upheld the steps taken by the 16th Agong to resolve the political quagmire post 15th general election.

In a related development Muhyiddin defended his statement. He is due to record his statement with the police tomorrow.
