Thailand overshadows Malaysia in terms of native Chinese speakers in Southeast Asia
While Malaysia and Singapore is well known for its native Chinese speakers, new data indicates that native Chinese speakers are largest in numbers in Thailand within the Southeast Asian region.
Malaysia’s native Chinese speakers amount to 3.7 million, second only to Thailand that record 8.8 million.
Singapore is not too far away as they have 3.1 million native Chinese speakers.

Other Southeast Asian countries that also have native Chinese speakers are the Philippines with 2.3 million and 1.4 million in Vietnam.
China topped the chart with 1.3 billion native speakers and this is followed by Taiwan’s 23.3 million.
