Women in civil service, companies hits 30 percent target
Women, Family and Community Development Minister Datuk Nancy Shukri revealed that the participation of women in the civil service and board of directors have hit the 30 percent target that was set under the National Women Policy.
“As of December 2022, the statistics by Civil Service Department revealed that women in the top management civil sector are at 38.9 percent,” said Nancy in a written reply
“The percentage of women as board members in government linked companies and public companies have passed the target of a minimum 30 percent.
“The data from the Malaysian Securities Commission in May 2023 indicates that the percentage of women who are board members in 100 Malaysian public listed companies is 31.4 percent.
Nancy said the above in a written reply to Rodziah Ismail (PH-Ampang) who asked about the direction of the policy post 2030 in terms of strategies and mechanism to achieve the 30 percent women in decision making process that meets the requirement as stated in the fifth Sustainable Development Goals – gender equality and women empowerment.
“The percentage of women participation in politics remains a challenge.”
In view of this, the ministry has started the Women Leadership Apprenticeship Program to increase number of talented women who can be in leadership positions.
The ministry also continuously revises the policy and action plan.
