Confirmed, five percent discount for all, Penang CM announces

The five percent discount for residential units under the Penang Madani Ownership Campaign have been extended to all.

This was announced by Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow.

“This will be limited to developers who have registered with the Penang Housing Board and listed the properties as unsold units under the National Property Information Centre,” he said, reported FMT.

It previously came under the spotlight when Penang Housing and Environment Exco Datuk Seri S Sundarajoo announced a five percent discount for purchases made by Indian Muslim community.

As of end of 2024, there are 2,796 residential units.

Earlier this month Chow instructed Sundarajoo to extend the discount to all purchasers.

Penang MIC chief Datuk J Dhinagaran had called for it to be extended to all Penangites.

He had also called for the federal government to emulate Penang’s efforts.

Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim Chee Keong also had called for the selective to be reviewed after human rights lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan hit out at the discount on the grounds of it being discriminatory.
