Five percent discount for all, says CM
Penang Chief Minister Chow Kon Yeow instructed the his state exco for housing and environment, Datuk S Sundarajoo to extend the five percent discount to all.
“I have instructed the housing and environment exco to engage with property developers and review the policy with a view to extending the discount to all homebuyers,” Chow said in a statement today.
He also confirmed that the matter would be deliberated further by the state executive council.
Sundarajoo had announced that the state government would give a five percent discount to Indian Muslims to purchase residence under the Madani Home Ownership Campaign (MOC).
This resulted in lawyer Rajesh Nagarajan hitting out the policy on the grounds of discrimination.
Penang DAP chairman Steven Sim meanwhile discussed the matter with Chow.
Penang MIC chief Datuk J Dhinagaran called for the discount to be given to all and that the federal government should emulate the policy.
MIC’s deputy president, Datuk S Saravanan meanwhile penned a Tamil poem hitting out at Sundarajoo.
