A bride in the hands of an irresponsible man: Vigneswaran’s analogy on MIC’s fractious relations in BN

MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran used the analogy of a bride who was given away to an irresponsible man to describe MIC’s position within the BN coalition.

“Just imagine you gave away your daughter to an irresponsible. You cannot make any rash decisions, even if she decides to go for a divorce,” he said at a press conference after chairing a central working committee meeting this evening.

He said this in response to questions on whether the party’s decision making committee had concluded on the path that the party would take.

MIC’s ties with Umno in BN has deteriorated from bad to worse in recent months.

For the record MIC is one of the founding component parties of BN, along with the MCA.

When pressed further on whether MIC would join the federal opposition, Perikatan Nasional, he responded:

“Most of our seats are held by Pakatan Harapan, two are held by PN.”

Several state chapters have already passed resolutions calling for an end to MIC in BN.

MIC currently has one parliament seat – Tapah – represented by its deputy president, Datuk Seri M Saravanan. The party also has representatives in Johor and Melaka.

Meanwhile, on another question regarding the party’s annual general meeting scheduled to be held next month, he confirmed that neither Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim nor BN chairman Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi were invited.

“I will be officiating the AGM. A total of 1200 delegates would be attending it.”

The AGM would be closely watched event as it would determine whether MIC remains in BN.

MCA too have had its AGM without the presence of Ahmad Zahid.
