PM Anwar: Sungai Bakap candidate to be announced next week

The candidate who represents the unity government (PH-BN) in the Sungai Bakap by-election would be announced next week, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar who is also Pakatan Harapan chairman has requested PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli to choose a suitable date to make the announcement.

“We have a list. we will choose a qualified candidate. There are many qualified and God willing we will announce it next week.

“For the date, I have told PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli to announce on a suitable date but process (for choosing candidate) we have discussed, party leadership done it, PH and BN leadership and we will inform the unity government (meeting).”

He said that after performing his Friday prayers at the Sultan Abdul Samad Mosque.

Yesterday Election Commission fixed 6 July as the by-election date for Sungai Bakap.

The seat fell vacant following the death of its first term incumbent Nor Zamri Latiff on 24 May.

This is the eighth by-election to be held post GE-15.
