Cyberbullying will be addressed at next Cabinet meeting

Communications Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that cyberbullying on social media platforms will be addressed at next Friday’s Cabinet meeting.

“The issue of cyberbullying on social media platforms will be discussed at the Cabinet meeting next Friday to find the best solutions, including legal and enforcement aspects,” said Fahmi on X yesterday after attending Rajeswary’s funeral.

His announcement came following the death of Rajeswary Appahu (28), also known as Esha on TikTok who tragically passed away due to cyberbullying.

“I am deeply disappointed and angered by what has happened.

“Those responsible for this tragedy must face justice,” he said.

He had raised the issue to the attention of Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

“We share the same stance on this issue and will convene in a few days,” he said.

He extended condolences to the victim and her family.

“Condolences to all members of the victim’s family,” he said.

Police reports have been filed regarding the cyberbullying issue.

According to a police report filed by Rajeswary’s friend, the three individuals who were bullying Eshavl on TikTok are Shalini Periasamy (@alphaquinnsha), Dhanya Neevashinie Shankar from Glory Cosmetic, and a TikTok user known as Dulal Brothers.

They repeatedly threatened Rajeswary with rape and murder during TikTok live sessions.

This all started last year when Rajeswary reported Glory Cosmetic for selling products containing mercury, which lead to their products being banned.

Meanwhile, in a related development, one of the perpetrators in the Rajeswary death case, Shalini, is rumoured to have met with an accident and passed away.
