Micro mobility vehicles off limits in villages and residential areas if no exclusion

Micro mobility vehicle users can only use their vehicles in the neighbourhood after obtaining an exclusion from Road Traffic Methods (Prohibition on the Usage of certain Micro mobility Vehicles) 2021, says Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

“As of Jan 24 this year, the Transport Ministry have agreed in principle to the proposal of Micro mobility Test Field (sandbox)Implementation Guideline that was developed by the Malaysian Institute of Road Safety Research (MIROS) as a condition to Transport Minister’s Special Approval to Road Traffic Methods (Prohibition on the Usage of certain Micro mobility Vehicles) 2021.

“All public roads and roads in residential areas is included in the Road Traffic Methods (Prohibition on the Usage of certain Micro mobility Vehicles) 2021.

“Authorities must abide by Transport Minister’s Special Approval in the above mentioned micro mobility guideline to apply for an exclusion to the prohibition,” said Loke in a written reply to Chong Zhemin (PH-Kampar).

Chong questioned whether there are new guidelines that would allow micro mobility vehicles to be used in villages and residential areas.
