‘RM100 fine merely a slap on the wrist’
MIC information chief R Thinalan was disappointed in the prosecution case against Shalini Periasamy who was merely slapped with RM100 fine under the Minor Offences Act instead of being charged under section 233 (1)(a) of the Communication and Multimedia Act similar to B Sathiskumar.
“The charges of Minor Offences Act 1955 on P. Shalini that was found guilty today seems soft and not impactful enough to stop a similar incident in the future from reoccurring,” he said in reference Shalini who is known as Alphaquinnsha on TikTok.
“Questions that arise as to why wasn’t P. Shalini found guilty under the Communication act, but the possibilities could be that she has a strong legal team to represent her,” he said in a statement.
Earlier today Shalini paid the fine as she was charged for insulting TikTok influencer A Rajeswary, otherwise known as Esha. Shalini is one of the two suspects hauled upto court in relations to the cyberbullying case of Esha which ended with Esha passing away on July 5.
The other person who was charged in court is B Sathiskumar better known as Dullal Brothers who is facing charges under Communication and Multimedia Act.
He pled guilty to the first charge and wanted a trial for another charge in which cyberbullied Esha’s mother R Puspa.
The sentiments felt by Thinalan are also felt by many Indians who was exasperated over the fact that Shalini was able to walk away with a slap on the wrist.
