ERA FM controversy: Probe them under section 298A of the Penal Code

A senator has called upon the police to probe ERA FM radio hosts under section 298A of the Penal Code for insulting the Thaipusam celebration.

“Apology has been issued but it is not enough.

“I urge the Home Ministry and the Royal Malaysian Police to open investigation papers under section 298A of the Penal Code and appropriate action be taken.

“The law must be enforced so that incidents such as these is not repeated and serves as a lesson to all,” said Senator Dr A Lingeshwaran who is also the vice chair of the Penang Hindu Endowment Board

He made the call over a viral TikTok clip that featured three ERA FM hosts dancing in an insulting manner to the calls of vel vel which is synonymous to the Thaipusam celebration among the Hindus.

R Yuneswaran (PH-Segamat) meanwhile also echoed Lingeshwaran’s sentiments. He was particularly these actions were perpretrated by media personalities.

“I also note that ERA has issued an apology.

“However I urge that stern action must be taken based on existing regulations and laws.

This is an unprovoked insult to the faith and traditions of Hindus in Malaysia.

“We are a nation based on respect and tolerance and it shocks me that this is going on in a high profile media organisation.

Earlier today RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) for action from the Communication Ministry.

Minister Fahmi Fadzil said that the MCMC would be probing into the matter.

National Unity Minister Aaron Ago Dagang and Digital Minister Gobind Singh Deo also condemned the act.
