PH-BN candidate for Sungai Bakap to be known tonight
The PH-BN coalition would be naming its Sungai Bakap by-election candidate tonight, confirmed unity government secretariat chief Datuk Asyraf Wajdi Dusuki confirmed last night.
The decision was made after a meeting in Seri Perdana that was attended by the top leadership of the coalition.
“The candidate who would represent the unity government in the by-election has been finalised and would be announced officially on 12 June 2024 at 9 pm,” he said in a statement.
Previously it was reported that five names were shortlisted by PKR
The top three contenders are Nibong Tebal PKR division chief Dr Amar Pritpal Abdullah, Penang PKR women’s chief Nurhidayah Che Rose and Dr Joohari Ariffin, the director of Institut Aminuddin Baki (northern branch).
Joohari has worked closely with Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek who is Nibong Tebal MP and Education Minister.
The by-election is set to take place on 6 July.
The semi urban seat in Penang fell vacant following the death of its incumbent, first term state lawmaker, Nor Zamri Latiff of Pas.
